When rolling the dice on a press junket for any
major movie, you never know if you’re going to get the star or not. Of course, you’re always hoping for the star because people always want to hear whatever said star has to say about their current cinematic vehicle.

Sometimes that doesn’t work out, however. For the Little Nicky junket, not only did Adam Sandler not show, but also Rhys Ifans, Harvey Keitel, and the rumored-to-be-there Quentin Tarantino were also no-shows.

Oh, well, what can you do?

Regardless, Patricia Arquette, who plays the object of Little Nicky’s affection, SNL-alum Kevin Nealon, who plays the gatekeeper of Hell who gets breast implants on his head, Allen Covert, who plays Nicky’s roommate, and director Steven Brill (who wrote the three Mighty Ducks movies as well as Heavyweights) were the ones we drew.

SNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNIP

The final guy was Allen Covert, the guy who plays Little Nicky’s roommate and was Robbie Hart’s swinging pal Sammy (drove a limo, you remember) in The Wedding Singer. He has never been in any movie without Steve Brill or Adam Sandler’s involvement (with the exception of Never Been Kissed after working with Drew Barrymore in Wedding Singer).

Question: Did you always want to be an actor?

Allen: Yeah, I always liked putting on costumes and acting goofy. I was supposed to be a lawyer when I left for college.

The press realized that Sandler wasn’t coming in and began hammering away at Covert with questions they would’ve had for Sandler (as they’ve known each other since a History of Comedy class when they were 20) and the guy had to act as Sandler’s publicist telling everyone stories about Sandler hustling and trying to get stage-time back in the day at the Improv with Chris Rock and how he always knew that Sandler was going to be someone special one day and how he hasn’t changed a bit since that time.

Sooooo...that’s pretty much the press junket roundtables for Little Nicky. Not the big stars from the movie, but Kevin Nealon was damn funny, though Brill and Covert pretty much just said nice things about Adam Sandler the whole time while Patricia Arquette got spacy and told us how much she loved babies.
